KATHERINE LOUISE TIBBETTS FAIRBANKS SHEPHERD, 88, formerly of Turnpike Road, Jaffrey died Saturday December 22, 2007 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center in Jaffrey.She was born in Portsmouth, NH on January 5, 1919 to Willis and Grace (Tuttle) Tibbetts.After graduating from Portsmouth High School she attended Keene State College with the Class of 41 where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree.Her first teaching began in New Boston, NH for three years when she left for Texas to join her husband E. Douglas Fairbanks where he was stationed at Fort Hood.After returning from Texas she worked at Camp Langdon in New Castle NH until World War II ended.After the War she lived in Portsmouth until the family moved to Charlestown where she taught pre-school. In a short time later they moved to Manchester where she taught school in Brown & Weston schools until the death of her husband of eighteen years.Three years later she remarried and moved to Jaffrey, teaching in the ConVal School system until she retired due to illness; after sixteen years in the Middle School.During her retirement she and her husband spent eleven years in Winter Haven Florida until her marriage of 34 years ended by the death of her husband Norris Shepherd.She moved back to Jaffrey in 1997.Mrs. Shepherd attended the United Church of Jaffrey; was President of the Jaffrey Womans Club for three years; served the Jaffrey-Rindge School Board; delivered Meals on Wheels; and was a member of the John Humiston Post #11, American Legion Auxiliary of Jaffrey.She is survived by a daughter Linda Fairbanks of Milford, NH; a son Fred (Perk) Fairbanks of Jaffrey; three step-sons Lou Shepherd of Kittery Point ME, Matthew Shepherd of Manhattan Beach, California, Mark Shepherd of Hatchville, MA; a step-daughter Deborah Cushman of Killington, VT; 14 grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.In addition to her two husbands, she was pre-deceased by a granddaughter Jessica Pollard. The will be no calling hours or formal funeral services at this time.Private committal services will be held at the convenience of the family.In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Church of Jaffrey, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.The Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey is assisting the family with arrangements.
