Larry Eugene Wendel

Larry E. Wendel, 74, of Keene passed away on Friday, August 26, 2022, at the Alpine Healthcare Center.

Larry was born in Kankakee, Illinois, on June 20, 1948. He was the son of Thomas and Virginia Wendel.

He grew up in Illinois and graduated from Donovan High School before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. The Marine’s brought him to California where he met and married the love of his life, Karen S. Dietz on November 1, 1969, in Hawaii.

Larry worked as an accountant for city and county departments in California. He was an active member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, even holding the position of past Commander at the American Legion Post 83 and VFW Post 5613. Larry was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He took great pride in the service he committed to this country and communities.  

He enjoyed playing chess and camping. His biggest joys were brought to him by his grandchildren, who are responsible for his cross country move to New Hampshire.

Larry is preceded in death by his daughter, Lauri Wendel, his parents, 4 brothers and 1 sister.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karen Wendel, his daughter, Kristen Wendel, his siblings, Scott (Linda) Ellis and Marsha Arseneau, his grandchildren; Ryley Crisp and Braden Crisp, and his 16-year-old beloved dog, Seirra Rose.

Friends and family are invited to a Calling Hour on 11:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street Jaffrey NH 03452. A graveside service will follow calling hours at the Massachusetts Veterans Cemetery, 111 Glenallen Street Winchendon MA 01475.
