Lawrence “Larry” Walter Kabat

Lawrence “Larry” Walter Kabat, of Jaffrey, NH, passed away on October 21, 2022, at the age of 71.

As we reflect on the two years since his passing, we continue to cherish his memory and the lasting impact he had on his family and friends. Larry was born on June 24, 1951, in Northampton, MA to Loretta (Kozloski) and Joseph Kabat. He graduated from Smith Academy in Hatfield, MA, and went on to get his BS in Zoology from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and his MBA from Franklin Pierce University. Larry grew up assisting with his family’s farm and after college graduation worked as an operations foreman at Mount Tom Ski area in Holyoke, MA. He went on to marry Joyce Fischer Kabat, move to Jaffrey, NH and have two children, Douglas and Lauren. He later worked at Vermont Circuits Inc in Brattleboro, VT as a facility supervisor, and at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield, NH as a Licensed Nursing Assistant and as the Recycling Coordinator. Larry was known as a reliable and diligent worker who was always quick to lend a helping hand.

Larry had a lifelong appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed farming, hunting, and fishing. He was proud of harvesting a NH state trophy whitetail deer and catching a Maine state trophy redfish. Larry was an involved father, patiently helping with science projects, enthusiastically following his children’s sports teams, and growing a large and thriving garden. He shared his enthusiasm for exploring nature with his children Douglas and Lauren, and his wife, Joyce Fischer Kabat, who survive him. Larry had fond memories of working as a team with Douglas to transport and set off large displays for Atlas Fireworks. Larry left his love of the natural world with his children who pursue education, careers and hobbies rooted in environmentalism. Larry loved tinkering, eating a shockingly large amount of food, watching old Western films, and repeating the same jokes for years.

In his final years, Larry suffered a spinal stroke leaving him paraplegic, and ultimately passed away from a heart attack. We miss Larry and know that his soul is at peace with his parents, and with his niece Kristen Hubert, and nephew David Hubert Jr. who have passed before him. He is survived by his wife Joyce, son Douglas and his wife Melody, daughter Lauren, brother Joseph Kabat, sister Cynthia Hubert and her husband David, cousins Ruth, Laura, and Wally Kozloski, and niece Elena Haworth.

Larry never liked to be the center of attention, so services were held privately. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love for the outdoors continues to inspire those who knew him.

We remember him with fondness and gratitude.
