Lucy Clarke Shonk, 90, died February 25, 2011 at her home in Dublin, New Hampshire surrounded by her loving family.

Lucy was born in Utica, New York on April 11, 1920 the daughter of Angus Warner Clarke and Edith Donnan Clarke. She graduated from Utica Country Day School and went on to study at Katherine Gibbs in Boston.

She married Peter Marne Shonk on November 26, 1944. Peter was a fighter pilot in WW II serving in the Pacific on the aircraft carrier Enterprise. They lived for many years in Glen Rock, New Jersey.

Lucy was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Marlborough, St. Dennis Church in Harrisville and Our Lady of the Snows in Dublin. She was also active in the New Hampshire Cooperative Extension.

As a child, Lucy enjoyed horseback riding and field hockey. She was a great athlete and enjoyed playing golf, tennis, paddle tennis, and skiing. She won many golf championships at the Arcola Country Club in New Jersey and the Dublin Lake Club.

She and Peter traveled all over the world as part of Elderhostel and always enjoyed learning about different cultures and history. She kept detailed diaries of all their trips.

She was a lover of music including classical, opera and show music, she also loved to sing and passed that love onto her children. She attended many concerts, operas and plays throughout her life.

Lucy was a wonderful neighbor thoughtful and kind, often the first to welcome someone to Dublin. She also cared for a number of older residents, visiting them and helping them in many ways.

She is survived by her husband and her seven children Sally Carey, Cynthia Caddell, Lucy Shonk, Diana Shonk, Peter Shonk and his wife, Sylvie Pouliot , Edith Jenkins, and David and his wife, Susan Shonk. Her grandchildren include, Erin and his wife, Grace Caddell, Dane Caddell, Gabrielle Shonk, Peter Shonk, III, Bronson Shonk and Ariel Shonk and three great grandchildren Lauren Lucy Caddell, Richard Erin Caddell and Lila Caddell.

She is survived by her sister Edith Brennan of Whitesboro, NY many nieces, nephews and cousins. Her brother Angus Clarke and sister Virginia Gluck predeceased her.

A Celebration of her life will be held at The Dublin Community Church on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM.
