Margiorina “Margie” D’Amico, 86, of Jaffrey died peacefully on Thursday, September 4, 2014 with her two sons by her side.
Margie was born on May 18, 1928 in Peterborough, New Hampshire, daughter of the late Enrico and Zelinda (Frulla) Ascani. Margie was educated in Jaffrey and was a 1946 graduate of Conant High School. She married Raymond “Pete” Gauthier in 1947 and worked at various local companies before she and her husband opened Margie’s Restaurant in 1962. It was a popular local gathering place on Main Street for over 20 years. Pete died in 1982.
In 1984, Margie married Rudolph ‘Tuffy” D’Amico and they lived in Vermont until his death in 1994. Margie then returned to Jaffrey where she remained until her death.
Margie loved to knit and was a wonderful cook. Most of all she loved spending time with her family. She was fondly known as ‘Nona’ by her family and many others.
Besides her parents, Margie was also preceded in death by her sister Islina Pilewicz and her 6 brothers, Duvglio, Severino, Romolo, Dino, Margiorino and Elio.
Margie is survived by her two sons, Ross Gauthier and his wife Sherry, and Kirk Gauthier with Donna Bryant; her grandchildren, Sarah Walker and her husband Ted, Martha Gauthier, Matthew Gauthier and Anthony Gauthier; her great-grandchildren, Britni, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Christopher, Brook, Chloe, Dharma and one great-great-grandson Colby, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours on Monday, September 8, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at 1:00 PM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the John Humiston American Legion Post #11, 20 Webster Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452, or to the Jaffrey-Rindge Memorial Ambulance, PO Box 107, Jaffrey, NH 03452.
