Marion G. ‘Johnnie’ Singleton, 91, formerly of Fitzwilliam, died peacefully with her family by her side on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at the Good Shepherd Health and Rehabilitation Center in Jaffrey. Mrs. Singleton was born in Fairfield, VT on April 1, 1920, daughter of the late Theodore and Melvina (Burnor) Pelkey. She was raised in Vermont and attended local schools. She had also lived in Massachusetts before making Fitzwilliam her home for over 60 years. In addition to raising her family, Mrs. Singleton was also a Pastry Chef and had worked in food services at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, and had also worked for many years at the historic Fitzwilliam Inn. She was an avid Red Sox fan and loved playing Bingo and cards. Cooking was not only a career for Mrs. Singleton, it was also a passion. She enjoyed cooking for her friends and family and cherished all of the time spent together with them. She loved life, laughter, family and friends and will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Singleton in 1992 and by her son Frederick Jr. in 1997. Mrs. Singleton’s grandson Barry and all of her sisters and brothers died earlier also. Mrs. Singleton is survived by her 2 daughters, Joan Rockwell of Marlborough, NH and Carolyn Williams and her husband Bob of Troy, NH; 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Singleton’s name to the Fitzwilliam Ambulance, c/o the Fitzwilliam Fire Department, Fitzwilliam, NH 03447 or to the Good Shepherd Health and Rehabilitation Center’s Activities Fund, 20 Plantation Drive, Jaffrey, NH 03452
At Mrs. Singleton’s request, there will be no calling hours.
A Graveside Service will take place at Pine Grove Cemetery on Royalston Road in Fitzwilliam on Thursday December 1, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor of Saint Patrick Church in Jaffrey will officiate.
