Marjorie Ann Kangas, 69, passed away February 24, 2023, at Pheasant Wood Center, Peterborough, after a long struggle with PTSD and other chronic illnesses. She was born September 3, 1953, in Peterborough to Eleanor (Somero) and Toivo Kangas and grew up in New Ipswich. As a child she attended the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church and Our Redeemer Chapel. She loved animals, especially cats, and was happiest playing at farms owned by family and friends. She graduated from Mascenic Regional HS, attended Plymouth State College, and took continuing education classes at Suffolk University. She enlisted in 1979 in the US Marine Corps and completed boot camp at Parris Island. She transferred to the Air Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms, CA, and was promoted to corporal while training in communications. In1985 she suddenly lost her husband, Douglas Closson, a Vietnam veteran struggling with PTSD. She also was predeceased by her parents. She is survived by her brothers Randolph (Karen) Kangas, New Ipswich; and David (Hannah) Kangas, Germantown, MD; by her sister Patricia (John) Ktistes, Rockport, MA; and by many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and caregivers. A burial service will take place in the spring with arrangements through Cournoyer Funeral Home.
