Martha Ellen Salmonson, age 91, passed away at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center on Sunday, June 13, 2021.
She was a longtime resident of New Ipswich, NH. Martha was born in New Ipswich on April 11, 1930, the daughter of Fredrick and Arlene Somero.
She graduated from Appleton Academy in New Ipswich in 1948. After graduating, Martha took a train to Ishpeming, MI and worked at the Gossard Garment Factory as a seamstress. She then moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she met her future husband Marvin, who at the time was in the service.
After Marvin’s service was up, they married on June 8, 1955. Martha and Marvin lived in Duluth, MN until 1957, when they moved to New Ipswich, NH. They bought a house on Playground Road, where they lived until 2016. During her time in NH, Martha was a homemaker and also worked at Tricnit Hosiery Mill.
Later in life, Martha resided at Ledgewood Bay Assisted Living in Milford, NH, and eventually moved to Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Jaffrey, where she lived her final years.
Martha enjoyed baking, picking berries, walking to town and the time she spent with her family. She was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in New Ipswich, NH.
Martha was predeceased in death by her parents, by her husband Marvin, brother Martin (Dot) Somero, sisters Judith (Clem) Rauhala, Bertha (Ralph) Parhilia, Eleanor (Toivo) Kangas, and Elizabeth (Earl) Dane, and her brothers-in-law, George (Mary Ann) and Harold (Marcella) Salmonson.
Survivors include her three sons: Jeffrey (Ellen), Daniel (Gail) of Merrimack, NH, and Dean (Julie) Salmonson of Ishpeming, MI; 12 grandchildren, 11 Great Grandchildren, and a host of Brothers and Sisters in Faith.
Family and friends are invited to a calling hour which will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 34 Beechwood Road, New Ipswich NH 03071. A funeral service for Martha will immediately follow at 2:00pm. Burial will take place following her services at Central Cemetery in New Ipswich.
