Mary A. Tommila

Mary A. Tommila, 89, a long-time resident of Fitzwilliam, NH, died on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Applewood Center in Winchester after a period of declining health.

She was born on March 13, 1928 in Quincy, MA, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Williamiana (Laing) Ricker. Mary grew up in Quincy, MA and later graduated from Keene High School in 1946. As a child, her family summered in Fitzwilliam and enjoyed the beautiful town so much that they moved there in 1941 and Mary has resided there ever since.

She worked a majority of her life as a bookkeeper and secretary for numerous companies including: PSNH (Public Service of New Hampshire), Baybutt Construction and the Keene Clinic. She was also the Treasurer for the Town of Fitzwilliam for thirteen years.

Mary married Frank O. Tommila and together raised their family in Fitzwilliam and enjoyed a nice life together. Sadly in 1990, Frank passed away.

She loved hiking Mt. Monadnock, yoga, reading, playing the organ and singing, and most of all, flowers and gardening.

Survivors include her children: Joan M. Bomar of Frederick, MD, Janet T. Snowling and husband, Douglas of Keene, her son, Alan Tommila of Fitzwilliam. She will be missed by three grandchildren: Scott and his wife, Marla, Jeffrey and Sara, and Todd Snowling, as well as two great grandchildren: Mia and Brynn Snowling. Mary’s surviving siblings include: Edwin Ricker and wife, Ruth, Richard Ricker and wife Myra.

Following cremation, a service and reception will be held at Fitzwilliam Community Church on May 13th at 2:00. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Fitzwilliam, NH.
