MARY H. REKAS, 97, of Plantation Drive, Jaffrey and formerly of Winchendon MA, died peacefully Friday April 16, 2010 at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center, following a period of failing health.
She was born May 27, 1912 in Lonsdale, Rhode Island daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Mikula) Baczenski.
She had graduated from the local high school in Lonsdale.
She and her husband owned and operated the Rekas Tourist Home in Winchendon MA for over twenty years. She had also worked at the New Hampshire Ball Bearings in Peterborough for fifteen years until she retired in 1972.
Following her retirement, she and her husband moved to San Diego, CA where they spent the next twenty five years.
She enjoyed traveling and she and her husband toured the United States in their motor home.
She has been a resident of Jaffrey since 1994.
Her husband of 63 years, Stanley A. Rekas, died November 25, 2003.
Family members include her two daughters Phyllis McGinnis of Jaffrey, with whom she had formerly spent summers, and Cynthia McArdle of Quincy MA; a son Stephen Rekas of Templeton, MA; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her son Ronald Rekas of Chelsea MA
on July 28, 2007.
The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Jaffrey-Rindge Ambulance Fund, Post Office Box 107, Jaffrey New Hampshire 03452.
Following cremation, burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.
There will be no calling hours.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:00AM at St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, pastor will officiate.
