MELVILLE L. FERNALD, 70, of Mark Street, Jaffrey died peacefully Saturday August 23, 2008 at his residence following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
He was born January 10,1938 in Peterborough, son of Lloyd C. and Helen Mae Fernald.
He was a 1956 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and had served with the United States Air Force.
Mel was employed as a Tack Maker for thirty-four years at W.W. Cross Co. in Jaffrey; and had retired from Millipore Corporation also in Jaffrey.
He was a family man who adored his grandchildren. He was always ready to help friends and neighbors as a Mr. Fix-it man. And he also enjoyed his many trips to the casinos in Connecticut and New Jersey.
He is survived by his mother Helen M. Eaton of Peterborough; two sons Michael S. Fernald of Alameda California and Richard T. Fernald of Jaffrey; two grandchildren Corey R. Fernald and Anna E. Fernald both of Jaffrey; his sister Mabel L. Speckman of Rindge; a nephew and several cousins. Also survived by his best friend and mother of his children, Grace (DiLuzio) Fernald of Jaffrey.
Mel was very interested in history so therefore the family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Jaffrey Historical Society, Main Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours
Funeral services will be held Saturday August 30, 2008 at 1:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey. Rev. David Forry of Jaffrey will officiate
