Melvin A. Taylor, 88, formerly of River Street, Jaffrey died Thursday July 28, 2016 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, following a period of failing health.
He was born on May 18, 1928 in Jaffrey, NH, son of the late Adolphus and Mary (Robidoux) Taylor. He attended schools in Jaffrey and had lived in Jaffrey his entire life before entering Pheasantwood nursing home.
Mr. Taylor married Marion A. McKenna on February 14, 1953. She predeceased Mel on March 1, 2009.
Melvin served our country honorably in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. Afterwards, he was the manager at Elite Laundry before working briefly at D.D. Bean & Sons and retired in 1990 after working many years at W.W. Cross Co. in Jaffrey.
Mr. Taylor was a Past Commander of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 in Jaffrey, as well as Past District Commander of the American Legion. He also belonged to the Jaffrey Memorial VFW Post #5613 in Jaffrey and had been a volunteer on the Jaffrey Fire Department. He was a communicant of St. Patrick Church in Jaffrey.
He loved all animals and his hobbies included family, fishing, hunting, gardening and family. Melvin’s family meant the most to him.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his three devoted sons, Michael A. Taylor of Rindge, NH, Mark A. Taylor of Jaffrey, NH and Marshall A. Taylor and his wife Linda of Fitzwilliam, NH; 8 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister, Loretta Bussiere of North Hampton, NH; a large extended family and many close friends.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mel was predeceased by his son Martin A. Taylor on September 24, 2006.
Mr. Taylor’s family warmly invites friends to call at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, in Jaffrey on Friday, August 5, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, August 6, 2016 at 9:00AM in St. Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Wilfred H. Deschamps, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Martin Taylor Scholarship, in care of Janice Fiandaca, 24 Perry Road, Rindge, NH 03461
