Mildred E. Henault, 92, of New Ipswich, died Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Monadnock Community Hospital after a brief illness.
She was born in New Ipswich, NH, January 2, 1924. The daughter of Eino and Femmie (Hermanson) Somero. She married Benjamin J. Henault on October 26, 1950.
She lived in New Ipswich for more than 56 years. Previously she had lived in Worcester, Townsend and Fitchburg, MA.
Mildred was a graduate of Appleton Academy.
Mildred was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church of New Ipswich.
Family members include her husband of 65 years, Benjamin J. Henault of New Ipswich; Four daughters, Rhonda and her husband Thomas Liubakka of New Ipswich, June Nykanen and the late Daniel Lakanen of New Ipswich, Ruth and her husband Warren Clay of Mont Vernon, Helen and her husband Pekka Peltokangas of New Ipswich; two sons, Benjamin R. and his wife Shirley (Hill) and Stephen J. Henault, both of New Ipswich.
She had 24 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren; one sister, Ingrid Hintsala of New Ipswich; three brothers, Raymond K. Somero of Hudson, Edwin R. Somero of New Ipswich, and Earl R. Somero and his wife Maria (Nevala) of New Ipswich.
She was predeceased by four brothers, Irvin, William, Arthur, and Glendon.
Mildred worked and volunteered at Central School and Highbridge Hill Elementary to the age of 88. She touched the lives of many local children.
In her earlier years she was employed by General Electric in Fitchburg MA. where she also played in the Industrial Basketball League.
She also enjoyed writing poetry and was interested in the history of the town of New Ipswich. Her greatest enjoyment of life was being surrounded by her family.
Calling hours for Millie are Saturday, January 30, from 4 to 8 pm at Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452 (Route 202). The funeral service will be Sunday, January 31 at 11:00 am at the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church, 34 Beechwood Road, New Ipswich. Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family in Central Cemetery, New Ipswich.
