Nancy Haskell (DeLano) Howard, 87, of Jaffrey, passed away peacefully Saturday afternoon, September 30, 2017, at the Good Shepherd Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Jaffrey, NH after a period of failing health from the results of Alzheimer's disease.
She was born Kathryn Linch on October 19, 1929, at the Veil Hospital in Langhorne, PA. Her birth mother was Joyce Linch of Spring Lake, NJ. She was adopted by Willard A. and Rachel I. Haskell October 9, 1930 who renamed her Nancy Haskell. She grew up in Greenfield, MA and was a June 1948 graduate of Greenfield High School.
In the early 1960s Nancy started working when her children were all in school starting with La Salle Florist in Whately, MA. While working there she learned floral arranging. Later she worked for florist shops in Northampton and Ludlow, MA. In the late 1960s, she started working for the Hadley Village Barn Shops where she did floral arrangements and later managed the Christmas Tree Shop. While working days, Nancy also worked evenings waitressing at the Whately Inn in the 1960s.
Relocating to Claremont NH in 1972, she worked for Kimball's Office Supply store in Claremont. She later moved to Hillsboro, NH where she took jobs at the Country Spirit Restaurant, Pats Peak Ski Area and the New England College food service in Henniker, NH. After moving to Jaffrey she worked at the Monadnock Bank where she retired.
Nancy was a member of Jaffrey Women’s Club, the Forest Park Tenants Cooperative, Senior Focus Exercise Group in Peterborough NH, Lioness Clubs of Claremont and Peterborough, involved with Business and Professional Women in Claremont, a former member of Puritan Charity Themis OES Chapter #29 in Milford, NH, and Past Matron of Woodman Aurora OES Chapter 26 in Claremont.
She is survived by her sister Jane Haskell Giard (Jim) of Shelburne, MA; her sons John W. DeLano (Joan) of Halifax, MA; Donald L. DeLano, Jr. (Holly) of Norton, MA; Scott Haskell DeLano of Pensacola, FL and her companion Bill Phillips of Jaffrey. She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents Willard and Rachel Haskell, her son Gordon R. DeLano, her first husband Donald L. DeLano, Sr., and her second husband Robert A. Howard, Jr.
A grave side service will be held at the Union Cemetery on Old Church Road in Claremont, NH on Saturday October 14, 2017, at 11:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her name may be made to the Robbins Memorial Congregational Church, Greenfield, MA or the First Congregational Church of Whately, MA.
