Nancy Ann Speeney (née Chamberlain), 77, of Bennington, NH, passed away peacefully at the Catholic Medical Center in Manchester, NH, on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, with her beloved daughter, Nicole, by her side.
She was born on October 19, 1947, in Peterborough, a daughter of the late Earl ‘Pete’ and Evelyn (Wright) Chamberlain Sr. She was a graduate of Peterborough High School. She married the love of her life Gene in 1968. She worked several different jobs throughout the first 15 years of the marriage. In 1986 she started doing childcare in her home. Over 30+ years she had a hand in raising over 40 children. Each one of them holds a special place in her heart. After her retirement in 2017, she started volunteering at The Window Shop at Monadnock Community hospital.
Nancy had many hobbies with knitting and sewing being on the top of the list. Every year she would make sure there were new homemade pajamas and knitted socks under the Christmas tree. It brought her joy to see the people that she cared about wearing or using the items she made for them. If she wasn’t knitting or sewing she was in the kitchen whipping up a family favorite. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her wonderful, loving family.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband Gene Speeney in 2017, son, Shawn Speeney in 1986, and her brother William Chamberlain in 2009.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Nicole and her husband Todd Wheeler of Bennington, NH, her granddaughter Dominique Wheeler of Brighton M.A., her brother Earl Chamberlain Jr., of Arkansas, and her sister, Susan Cauthorn of Virginia. She is also survived by her “bonus” siblings, Sheila Bergeron of Jaffrey, Bettina Nutting of Peterborough, and Thomas Speeney of Jaffrey, along with many nieces and nephews.
Nancy is also survived by her cherished companion, a chihuahua named Lucy. The one thing Lucy and Nancy had in common was that they were both “small but mighty.”
Friends and family are invited to calling hours on Monday, February 3, 2025, from 11:00AM to 12:30PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey. A time of fellowship and remembrance with take place at 12:30PM, followed by a reception.
