Nicholas ‘Nick’ Alexander Horan Scheff, age 32, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on March 29th, 2017.
Nick was born on August 1st, 1984, in Phoenix, Arizona, the first child of Lois Horan. When he was two years old, his mother married and he was adopted by his father James L. Bloom-Scheff. Nick spent his early childhood in Massachusetts where his two younger sisters were born. Nick was immediately a protective and caring brother. He and his sisters had a famously close relationship - they got along amazingly well all their lives and this was always remarked upon by others. He was also unusually close to his mother and they spent a lot of time together.
Nick developed a love of swimming at a young age and was a strong and dedicated U.S.A. and school competitor for many years. Nick moved to New Hampshire at the age of twelve and enjoyed a happy childhood in the woods with many friends. Nick’s oldest and dearest friends have described him as larger than life, kind, funny, strong and a guy you could always count on.
In high school, Nick earned countless trophies and medals and became a state and New England swimming champion, as well as a national Top Sixteen swimmer for U.S.A. Swimming. He was also a musician who loved to play both instrumental and electric guitar. After high school, he briefly attended Keene State College in NH before deciding to serve his country by joining the U.S. Army. Nick was deeply dedicated to his country and was prepared and determined to selflessly defend others.
After serving in the Army, Nick moved back to Boston to be closer to family. While living in Boston, his son, named Nicholas R. Scheff, was born to him and his former partner, Meghan Shaughnessy, on October 29th, 2011. Little Nicky was Nick’s joy for the past 6 years. He was a loving father who strived to be his best for his son. They played together tirelessly and with consummate joy.
Nick was a journeyman sheet metal worker for the past 8 years, employed by Tradesmen International since 2012. Nick was known as a hard-working employee who went the extra distance with his work. Nick took pride in his work and would often point out new buildings in the Boston area where he had been instrumental in construction of the heating and cooling systems.
Nick leaves behind his family: his mother, Lois Horan of Greenfield, NH; his son, Nicholas R. Scheff; his devoted friend Meghan Shaughnessy along with her extended family of Hull, MA; his sister and brother-in-law Sarah Scheff and Ted Pepe of Belmont, MA; his sister and brother-in-law Hannah and Caleb Veltry and niece and nephew Bella and Quentin Veltry of Wakefield, RI; his father and step-mother James and Michelle Bloom-Scheff and brother Ben-Zion Bloom-Scheff of Wayland, MA; his grandmothers, Jo-An Horan of Middleboro, MA and Betty-Jane Scheff of Lincoln, MA; aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. He will be dearly missed by all.
A memorial fund in Nick's honor has been created to benefit Nick's son, Nicholas R. Scheff, who is currently 5 years old. Contributions can be made to the "Nicholas Scheff Memorial Fund" and mailed c/o TD Bank, 421 Lincoln St., Hingham, MA 02043 or at any TD Bank location.
