Norman L. Courchene, 90, longtime resident of Jaffrey, NH, passed away on October 13, 2022, in the comfort of his home with family by his side.
He was born on April 4, 1932, in Jaffrey, NH, a son to the late Leonard and Laura (Lashua) Courchene.
Norman was raised in Jaffrey and graduated from Conant High School. He was a star athlete of Conant’s baseball and basketball teams, and he chose to turn down a promising opportunity to sign on with the Saint Louis Browns, to enlist in the Army. He joined the Unites States Army in 1952 where he proudly served his country until 1954. During his time, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. In 1994 he enlisted in the New Hampshire Army National Guard and was a plumber and pipefitter.
In his later years, Norman was an active member of the American Legion Post 11 in Jaffrey. He worked at Belletetes as a Mill Worker for many years. Norman was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He loved spending time in the woods and sharing his love for hunting with his son and grandchildren and many friends. He was a devoted husband for fifty-five years before the passing of his wife Rita in 2008. He will forever be remembered as a caring and loving father.
Norman was pre-deceased by both of his parents, his beloved wife Rita Courchene, his daughter Christine Cook who passed in 2007, and his sister Lorian Laperier.
Norman will be remembered by his son, Peter Courchene of Jaffrey, NH, his daughter Cathrine Gauthier of Jaffrey, NH, his sister Elaine Whitney of Antrim, NH, as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
Services will be private. Norman’s final resting place will be in Saint Patrick Cemetery with his beloved wife and daughter.
