Norman R.”Normie” Chalke, 72, of Brook Street in Jaffrey, died peacefully Tuesday August 14, 2012 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough, surrounded by his family. He was born September 9, 1939 in New Ipswich NH, son of the late Richard S. and Martha (Maki) Chalke. He had attended schools in New Ipswich. “Normie” has been a resident of Jaffrey for the past forty years and had previously lived in Dublin and Hancock. He retired in 2002 from the Town of Jaffrey Parks and Commons Department and before that was a truck driver for the Town Highway Department, having worked a total of twenty nine years with the Town of Jaffrey. Formerly he was a self employed logger, also had worked for SS Concrete, Seppela Aho and also W.W Cross Co in Jaffrey. “Normie” was a member of the New Ipswich Athletic Association where he won many trophies for Horse Shoe Pitching tournaments; he also belonged to the Jaffrey Ice Racing Association and had many trophies from this as well. He was an avid New York Yankee’s fan; he enjoyed fishing and camping; but most cherished to him was the time he spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of thirty-five years Peachie (Atkins) Chalke of Jaffrey; his five daughters Robin Gorman and husband Mike of Maine, KiKi Lawrence and husband Ted of Dublin, Michelle Crocker of St. Augustine FL, Debbie Amidon and husband Robert of Winchester, Jaime E. Rivard and her companion Dave Matson of Jaffrey; sixteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers Clifford Chalke of Jaffrey, Albert Chalke and his wife Janet of Landrum, SC; a sister Beverly Taylor of Rindge; many nieces and nephews.
Burial will follow in Conant Cemetery, Jaffrey.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Mt. Monadnock Baseball, Post Office Box 196, Jaffrey NH 03452-0196.
Funeral services will be held Friday August 17, 2012 at 1:00PM in the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202S) in Jaffrey. Those people planning to attend the funeral are asked to wear thier favorite baseball shirt.
