Patricia Hanley

Patricia Hanley died peacefully on March 1, 2022, at the age of ninety-six in the presence of her caring daughter Joan Hanley and granddaughter Siobhán Moore. Also attending in Jaffrey, New Hampshire, were her grandsons Abraham Bendheim and Brendan Farrell, with Abraham’s wife Maria Huiza, as well as Pat’s son-in-law Thomas Moore.

Pat was born in 1925 in Jamaica, New York. Her father was the fire chief in Greenwich Village, New York City, and her mother, Marguerite Maher, from the Maher and Connelly families of Castlerea, Co. Roscommon, Ireland, was a homemaker active in civic life.

Pat graduated with honors from Saint Agnes Academic School in Brooklyn and worked for the British Admiralty during WWII. She married Joseph Hanley and spent almost fifty years living in Floral Park, New York.

She was a devoted reader all her life. With her loving husband Joseph Hanley, she worked hard so that all her children could attend college and when the third finished Pat attended college herself. The children say that whenever a book came into the house, Pat read it.

Pat is survived by her son Joseph, daughter in law Anne Marie, daughter Joan, son in law Thomas, son in law Brian, grandchildren: Brendan, Owen, Eric, Abraham, Kevin and Siobhan, great grandchildren Caragh, Judy, Declan, Ben, James, Teddy and Kenzie, niece Karen and nephews Kevin and Keith. Pat joins her beloved husband Joe, dear daughter Judy and loved granddaughter Joanna in the afterlife.

With her outgoing and friendly manner, her wit and sense of humor, Pat made friends easily and drew people to her wherever she went. She had a devoted and open-hearted spiritual life and always said that she was not afraid of dying. To the end, she was an inspiration to her family and those around her. Her spirit remains alive in the often funny and heartfelt stories told about her and in memories of her edgy wit and clear philosophy of life.

At Pat’s request, there will be no calling hours.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, 2022 at 11:00am in Saint Patrick Church, 89 Main Street, Jaffrey, NH 03452. Rev. Wilfred Deschamps, Pastor, will be the celebrant.
