Philip W. Coll

Philip W. Coll, 71, of North Street in Jaffrey, died Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a sudden illness.

Mr. Coll was born in Jaffrey, NH on July 12, 1935, son of the late Archie & Eva (Sirois) Coll. He was a 1954 Graduate of Conant High School.

Mr. Coll worked for his father at Coll'™s Poultry Farm from his childhood until he graduated from High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served for four years aboard the U.S.S. Iowa. When he returned from the Navy, Mr. Coll married Catherine Saville and began his family. In 1973, Mr. Coll and his family opened Coll'™s Garden Center in the 'œwee' garage behind his home. Over the past 34 years, Mr. Coll nurtured the garden center and it has grown into what it is today and has certainly affirmed their well known slogan 'œGrow with Us'. It was through his careful work that Mr. Coll earned his nickname, the 'œChainsaw Guru' and will certainly be missed by all.

Mr. Coll thoroughly enjoyed time spent with his family and friends and loved cooking and camping. He also enjoyed Ice Racing on Contoocook Lake with the Jaffrey Ice Racing Association for many years. He maintained his affection for large trucks and was the proud owner of two 6 wheel and 10 wheel dump trucks which are a common sight around the region.

Mr. Coll was predeceased by his brother Richard J Coll on October 15, 1940.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Catherine (Saville) Coll; 2 daughters, Bonnie Ann Cutter and her husband Jeff, and Beth Shepard; a son, Bruce Coll and his wife Denise of Jaffrey; 8 Grandchildren, Alex and Hiram Cutter, Brian and Andrew Desmarais, Adam and Erin Coll, and Katy and Merideth Shepard; 2 Great-Grandchildren, Alexis and Derek Cutter; a sister, Betty Royce and her husband Kent of Jaffrey; a brother Archie Coll, Jr. and his wife Helen of Jaffrey, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
