Jaffrey, New Hampshire
Priscilla G. Palmer, 76, died May 26, 2007, at Monadnock Community Hospital after a six month battle with cancer.
She was born in Brooklyn, New York, September 23, 1930, and with her parents Ferdinand and Anne Gordon moved to Jaffrey, New Hampshire in 1932. She attended Cushing Academy in Ashburnham, MA and the University of Vermont, in Burlington, VT. She worked as an Allergy Technician at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA. and at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan.
In 1959, she married Charles Palmer of Indianapolis, Indiana and was the mother of five children; Rebecca, Bolingbrook, IL; Col Brian Palmer, USMC; Stephen, Killeen, TX; and Douglas and Bradley, Pompano Beach, FL. Also, she leaves six grandchildren, Daniel Palmer, Albany, NY; Kimberly Palmer, Portsmouth, VA; Jordan and Victoria Howard, Bolingbrook, IL; Sonja and Stefanie Palmer Stuttgart, Germany.
Priscilla and her husband Charles with their five children lived and traveled the world; they lived in St. Louis, Mo; Indianapolis, IN; Fountain Valley, CA; Alamo CA; Saddle River, NJ; Stony Brook, NY; Boca Raton, FL; and Hamburg, Germany. Her love for travel was evident after college when she traveled to Europe and South America in the early 1950'™s. Although she lived in many places her first love was New Hampshire. After many years of being a summer resident in Jaffrey she and her husband Charles retired to Jaffrey in 1992.
She was a dedicated volunteer her entire life, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother, Brownie Leader, many PTO organizations, School Board Member and President in Stony Brook, NY and served the American Red Cross for 20 years as a Disaster Relief Representative. Priscilla served the Red Cross in flood and hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico; St. Croix, Louisiana; Florida, Missouri; North Carolina; and Vermont. She was a long term member of the Jaffrey Historical Society serving on the Board of Directors, and served as President, Board of Directors of Team Jaffrey, member of the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce, current member of the Jaffrey Cemetery Committee, and past treasurer of the Jaffrey Women'™s Club. In 2004, Priscilla and her husband Charles earned the Jaffrey Chamber of Commerce 'œCitizen of the Year' award.
Priscilla had many interests which included skiing, gardening, art and travel. She skied every major mountain in the Rocky Mountains, as well as New Hampshire, Vermont, Austria, and Italy. But, in the summer you would find her working in her gardens growing beautiful flowers.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Charles Palmer, daughter Rebecca Howard, sons Brian, Stephen, Douglas, and Bradley. Priscilla was predeceased by her parents Anne and Ferdinand Gordon, and brothers Donald, Peter, and George. A private family internment will take place at Phillips-Heil Cemetery and a Memorial Service to celebrate Priscilla'™s life is planned for early July, the actual date will be announced later.
