Rindge
R. JOHN OJALA, 61, of Blakeville Road in Rindge died Monday December 22, 2008 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough following a sudden illness.
He was born July 1, 1947 in Peterborough son of Robert W. and Mary Mamie (Eaves) Ojala.
He was a 1965 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and earned his BA degree in History from the University of New Hampshire in 1969. While at UNH he was a member of Acacia fraternity.
He was a United States Army Veteran and was a member of the Mens Auxiliary of VFW Post 5613 in Jaffrey as well as the Sons of the American Legion, John Humiston Post #11 in Jaffrey. He also belongs to Charity Lodge #18 in Jaffrey.
John was currently employed in the maintenance department at the Jaffrey Grade School, and had previously worked at Millipore Corp in Jaffrey for 28 years. He also was a substitute teacher in the Jaffrey-Rindge School District. Other places where he had worked through out the years were The Monadnock Bank, Jaffrey Fire Protection, Boutwells Garage, Whitney Junction in Rindge and the former B B Grocery in Jaffrey.
John enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Jaffrey Cribbage Club. He was great at Trivia games and enjoyed playing Bocthi at the American Legion with friends.
He is survived by his father Robert W. Ojala of Danbury CT; four sons Eric J. Ojala of Forrest City NC, Benjamin D. Ojala of Wilmington NC, Nathan P. Ojala and Andrew L. Ojala both of Rindge; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; his sister Jane C. Stone of Munsonville NH; and one aunt Cynthia Hamilton of Jaffrey.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
A Memorial Gathering to celebrate his life will be held Monday December 29, 2008 from 5:00 to 7:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey.
