Richard H. Carter, 75, of Fitzwilliam, NH passed away suddenly on April 6, 2008 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center due to a military service related illness. He was surrounded by his loving family and was both courageous and optimistic throughout his illness.
He was born in Lynn, MA on May 11, 1932 to Dorothy M. [Cann] Carter and Herbert Carter. His wife Carol survives him having celebrated 55 years of marriage. He is survived by three sons, Robert & Lori Carter of Ayer, MA, Thomas & Lisa Carter of Stafford Springs, CT and Kenneth & Jennifer Carter of Warwick, RI. His grandchildren, Stacy, Heather, Benjamin, Adam, Michael, Daniel, Matthew, Ryan, Kimberly and 5 great grandchildren. He is also survived by an Aunt, several nieces and a sister.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Kenneth R. Carter.
Dick retired following 28 yrs. as Master Sgt and Master Jumper with the Armys 10th Special Forces, Green Berets. He served in both Korea and Vietnam. Following his military service he worked at Phillips Lighting Corporation in Lynn, MA for 15 years.
He was a member of Disabled American Vets Chapter 21, the Jaffrey VFW Memorial Post 5613, the John Humiston American Legion Post 11, and The Elks Lodge. Dick was a talented woodcarver and carpenter. His whimsical wood spirits will be treasured. Through scouts, little league, fishing derbies and school plays, he enjoyed and loved his family deeply. They love him in return. His wisdom and sense of humor will be missed by many.

Burial will take place at the Cathedral of the Pines at the convenience of the family.
