Richard Meyers

Peterborough, New Hampshire Richard Meyers, 88, of Rivermead Road in Peterborough, died Sunday, February 26, 2012 at his home after a very brief illness. He was born on October 2, 1923 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, son of the late Herbert and Linda (Henley) Meyers. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree from Williams College in Massachusetts in 1944, and went on to serve his country in the United States Navy. Upon completion of his term in the Navy, he attended Purdue University in Indiana where he earned his Doctorate in Organic Chemistry in 1948. Mr. Meyers managed research laboratories for Texaco in New York and Belgium. His travels throughout his career brought his family around the world and resulted in a variety of life lessons and many fond memories. From Belgium, Mr. Meyers returned to Poughkeepsie, NY and retired in 1986. He and his wife moved to Peterborough, NH in 2006. He will be remembered and cherished for his zest for life, his weaving, and for his amazing hole-in-one at the Crotched Mountain Golf Course when he was age 81. Mr. Meyers is survived by his wife of 67 years, Phyllis (Schindel) Meyers of Peterborough, his 2 daughters, Nancy Meyers of Santa Fe, NM, and Janet Meyers of Somerville, MA; his son Thomas and his wife Mary Meyers, along with their son, Rafael Meyers, all of Hancock, NH.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Meyers name to the Monadnock Area Food Bank, Post Office Box 656, Peterborough, NH 03458, or to the charity of one’s choice.

At Mr. Meyers’ request, there are no calling hours and funeral services will be private and at the convenience of his family.
