Richard T. Martin, 72, resident of New Ipswich, NH died on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Pheasant wood Center in Peterborough after a brief illness.
Richard was born on May 18, 1943 in Lexington, MA a son of the late Edward and Ruth (Bastable) Martin.
He attended Harvard university where his studies in tropical botany took him on trips to the Amazon river basin. He became interested in the use of certain herbs for medicinal use which led him to open Attar in the late 1960s; one of the first health food stores on the east coast. His love of the outdoors brought him to New Hampshire where he relocated Attar and ran it as a wholesale distributor of herbs and spices. He was a lifelong and accomplished musician; playing the clarinet, piano, harpsichord and his beloved sax.
He is survived by his daughter India and her husband Sean, his brother Edward and wife Hiroko, and his sister, Ruth and her husband Farrokh.
A memorial service celebrating Richard's life will be held in May.
Burial will be in the Smithville Cemetery, New Ipswich.
