Richard W. Keegan, 81, of Amos Fortune Road in Jaffrey died Sunday August 12, 2007 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a period of failing health.
Mr. Keegan was born in Shrewsbury, MA on December 3, 1925, son of the late Ward G. and Flora (Brooks) Keegan. He was a 1944 graduate of Shrewsbury High School.
In his youth, Mr. Keegan was active with the Boy Scouts of America and the Sea Scouts. Later he served in the Asiatic and Pacific Theaters during World War II with the U.S. Navy 'œSea Bees' and was attached to the 5th Marine Division in Iwo Jima. His unit was also involved with the Japan Occupation. He was a member of the Shrewsbury American Legion.
Mr. Keegan was a carpenter and had retired in 1985 from Kesseli & Morse. He had been a member of the Carpenters Union in Massachusetts for over 50 years.
He belonged to the Antique Outboard Motor Club and the Matthew John Whittall Masonic Lodge in Shrewsbury. Mr. Keegan enjoyed traveling around the United States in his motor home, camping, gardening and fishing.
He was preceded in death by his wife Marion (Nordberg) Keegan on April 3, 1997.
Mr. Keegan is survived by his daughter Elaine Keegan of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia and his son Richard W. Keegan and his wife Maura of Rindge, NH; his grandchildren Colleen Keegan and Richard W. Keegan, III, both of Rindge, NH; a step-brother Ralph Eaton of Shrewsbury, MA and many cousins and close friends.
A Memorial Service and Celebration of Mr. Keegan'™s life will be held on Friday, August 17, 2007 at 10:00 AM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 South) Jaffrey, NH 03452. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home from 9:00AM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Keegan'™s name to the Daniel Webster Council, Inc. Boy Scouts of America, 571 Holt Avenue, Manchester, NH 03109-5214 or to Hospice at HCS, Post Office Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458.
