Rita M. Chamberlain, 89, of Jaffrey died Friday, June 19, 2015 at the home of her daughter, following a period of failing health.
She was born September 18, 1925 in Jaffrey, daughter of the late Alfred and Yvonne (Gauthier) Pelkey.
Rita had attended local schools and has been a lifelong resident of Jaffrey.
In 1981, she had retired from D.D. Bean and Sons following more than thirty years of employment.
Earlier in her life she was an avid bow hunter and was often seen at the archery range at Annette State Park, practicing her skills.
She enjoyed playing the organ at home and spent many afternoons making puzzles with her sister Marie.
For many years, Rita spent winters in Florida with her husband and family.
She most cherished the time spent with her large family.
In 1947 Rita married George Roland Chamberlain. He died in 2011.
Survivors include her daughter Joyce A. Baird and husband Harlan of Jaffrey; two grandsons Richard and Jerome both of Jaffrey; three grandchildren Colby, Caleb and Cailyn; one great grandson Cooper , all of Jaffrey; a brother Andrew Pelkey of Winchendon, MA; two sisters Marie Rene of Jaffrey and Phyllis Johnson of West Warren ,MA; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters Helen Pelkey, Amy St. Pierre, Alice Sirois, Stella Heil, Laura Davis, Lorraine Homon and brothers Oris Pelkey, Franklin Pelkey, and Albany Pelkey.
As was for her husband, there will be no formal services at this time.
Burial in the family lot at Conant Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
The Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street in Jaffrey is assisting the family with arrangements.
