Robert “Bob” G. Bernier, 69, died Sunday, August 27, 2017 after a prolonged battle with cancer. Bob died peacefully in his home.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts on June 30, 1948 to parents Roland and Catherine Bernier, Bob was a graduate of Msgr. Prevost High School in Fall River, MA where he lettered in baseball. Following high school, Bob enlisted and served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War. After returning home from service, Bob and Vivian wed. Soon after marrying, Bob’s career in the airlines brought him to work at John F. Kennedy Airport in New York, during which time he attended Suffolk Community College in Suffolk, NY, and then to Miami, Florida.
Bob and Vivian’s family later relocated to Peterborough, New Hampshire when he began his 20-year career with the U.S. Treasury Department. Bob was a devout and engaged member of the Divine Mercy Parish in Peterborough, NH since 1988. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus council number 5790, for which he served as Grand Knight, and then District Deputy. A lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the NY Giants teams, Bob enjoyed a variety of interests such as bowling, fishing, and choreographed ballroom dancing. In their later years, Bob and Vivian wintered in Mesa, Arizona where they continued to enjoy dancing together under the desert sky.
He leaves his wife of 47 years, Vivian, of Dublin, NH; son, Jean-Pierre Bernier and his wife Kristen and their sons Oscar and Harrison of Hancock, NH; and son Jacques Bernier and his wife Shannon and their daughter Piper of Antrim, NH. He is also survived by siblings Anne Marie Teasedale of Somerset, MA; Michelle Wilding of Somerset, MA; Paul Bernier of Fall River, MA; David Bernier of North Hampton, NH; and ten nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home, 33 River Street, (Rte. 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 11:30am at Divine Mercy Church, 12 Church Street, Peterborough, NH 03458. Rev. Msgr. Gerald Belanger will be the Celebrant. Burial with Military Honors will follow in St. Peter Cemetery on High Street in Peterborough.
