Robert E. "Bob" Fairchild

Robert E. “Bob” Fairchild, 83, formerly of Canton, CT passed away peacefully on November 5, 2014 at Good Shepherd Nursing Center in Jaffrey, NH. He was born on May 4, 1931 in New York City to Dr. Robert Fairchild and Jeannette (Julien) Fairchild. He was known as “Doc” in Marathon, NY, where he grew up and graduated from Marathon Central High School.

Bob served in the Air Force from 1952 to 1956 and spent time in Korea in air traffic control. In 1957 he married Patricia V. Stein. Bob attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he earned his B. S. in Metallurgical Engineering in 1958. He spent most of his working life as a Metallurgist for Fafnir Bearing Company in New Britain, CT, retiring in 1991. In 1995, Bob and Pat moved to Hancock NH, where he continued to enjoy photography, walking his dog, working in the woods, collecting chess sets, and traveling in Europe.

He was predeceased by Pat just over a year ago. He is survived by his daughter Jane A. Fairchild and grandson Lukas R. Fairchild of Seattle, WA, his son Robert J. Fairchild and daughter-in-law Janice L. Pearce of Berea, KY, his daughter Annie J. Fairchild of Seattle, WA, his former daughter-in-law Kathleen A. Hogan of Louisville, KY, his two sisters, Betsy Buchanan of Auburn, NY and Susan Haines of Marathon, NY, as well as nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staffs of Good Shepherd Nursing Center and Home Healthcare Hospice & Community Services for their care and compassion.

A memorial service is Saturday November 8 at 3 pm in the Chapel at Good Shepherd Nursing Center, 20 Plantation Dr, Jaffrey, NH.
