Robert W. ‘Rob’ Tonsberg, 85 of Peterborough, and formerly of Hyde Park, MA, died on Wednesday December 2, 2015 at the Monadnock Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
He was born on June 10, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the son of the late William and Edith (Carr) Tonsberg. Mr. Tonsberg was raised in Dorchester, MA, graduated with the class of 1948 at Jamaica Plain High School and later attended Northeastern University in Boston, MA. Mr. Tonsberg served our country honorably during the Korean Conflict as a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army.
After his military service, Mr. Tonsberg faithfully served the City of Boston, Massachusetts as a police officer, rising to the rank of Sergeant before retiring in 1990. He was a longtime member of the Boston Patrolmans Association.
Mr. Tonsberg was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed camping and was a respected Boy Scout Leader in Hyde Park while his sons advanced through the program. He also enjoyed woodworking and bowling.
Mr. Tonsberg is survived by his wife of 16 years, Pauline (Connors) Tonsberg of Peterborough, NH; his daughter, Dianne Donnelly of Burke, VA; his 2 sons, William Tonsberg of Worcester, MA and Stephen Tonsberg of Virginia Beach, VA; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his twin brother Richard of Tennessee and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
At Mr. Tonsberg’s request, there will be no formal services until the spring, when he will be laid to rest with full military and police honors.
