Ronald Davis Christian, 77, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Jaffrey and Peterborough, died suddenly Sunday, January 16, 2011 following a period of failing health.
He was born July 3, 1933 in Peterborough, NH son of the late Alfred J. and Editha Mable (Davis) Christian. Ron's mother died from complications of childbirth and he was raised by his step-mother Olive (Robichaud) Christian. He graduated from Conant High School in1952.
He served for six years with the United States Air Force and was stationed in Hawaii, the Philippines and Cheyenne, Wyo. Ron had been a member of the John Humiston American Legion Post #11 of Jaffrey.
Upon returning to Jaffrey after his military obligation, Ron worked as a printer at W.W. Cross Co. He also served on the Jaffrey Police Department and was an attendant on the former VFW Ambulance in Jaffrey. Ron had also worked at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge in purchasing and security, as well as in the Emergency Department at Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough and at Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center in Greenfield.
Ron had served the Town of Peterborough as Deputy Town Clerk from 1989 until 1993, and as Tax Collector from 1989 until 1997, before finally retiring and moving to Florida in 1999.
Ron was a member of the Peterborough Lions Club as well as the Amoskeag Veterans, and will always be fondly remembered as A real good story teller.
Survivors include his wife of twenty one years, Janet (Dickinson) Christian of Clearwater, Florida; a son Keith M. Christian of Hillsborough, NH; three daughters; Kathleen A. Mimi Taylor and Edie J. Kemp, both of Jaffrey, and Colleen G. Christian of Concord, NH; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Paul R. Chris Christian of Pigeon Forge, TN and Kenneth A. Christian of Peterborough, NH; three nieces, and many cousins and close friends.
The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Ronalds name be made to the Peterborough, NH Lions Club, PO Box 3206, Peterborough, NH 03458, or to Monadnock Worksource, 225 Concord Street, Peterborough, NH 03458
Private committal services in St. Patrick Cemetery, Jaffrey will be held at the convenience of the family.
There will be no calling hours or formal funeral services at this time.
