Milford, NH – Ruth E. (Crickard-Drown) Graney, 96 of Milford, NH, passed away early Saturday the 23rd of January at the Merrimack Community Hospice House after a period of declining health.
Ruth was born in Boston, Mass. January 4, 1920 and was the daughter of Ethel (Crickard) and Hamilton Drown. Ruth was raised in the Boston area and a graduate of Everett High School class of 1938. Her former husband, James E. Graney Sr., passed away in 2001. She resided in Milford, NH for the past 25 years and previously resided in Nashua, NH and Boston, MA.
Ruth worked for Doehla Greeting Cards from 1962 till her retirement in 1992 at the age of 72. She began in the greeting card production line and later became the Office Manager, a dedicated and compassionate employee for 30 years.
Ruth attended the Pilgrim Church in Nashua for many years and more recently Good News Bible Church of Wilton, NH. Ruth also was a founder of the Nashua Newcomers Club in the early 1950’s.
Ruth enjoyed travel and loved to visit her Daughter Judith (and family) in San Diego, CA. She often spent time in Islesboro, ME with her daughter Barbara and her family. She enjoyed several trips to various parts of the country with family and friends. Ruth’s birth family originated in Nova Scotia and had the opportunity to return there in 2001. Ruth loved to read, sew, knit, crotchet and decorate cakes.
Her family meant the world to her and she enjoyed the time she spent with all of her family members. She spent a great deal of time with her daughter Barbara and Son-in-law Scott who shared in her caregiving in the most recent season of her life. Her great grandchildren Maddie and Olivia were often seen visiting her weekly and sharing snacks, cuddles and love. Ruth will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was a classy, caring, loving and strong woman.
She is survived by her three children, Judith and her husband Mike Trest of Waxman, NC, James E. & Terry Graney of Bristol, RI and Barbara J. and her husband Jonathan Scott Brown of Lyndeborough NH. Six Grandchildren, Heather, James, Jennifer, David, Chris and Beth and eight great Grandchildren, Brittany, Connor, Samantha, Casey-Ruth, Hailey, Madelyn, Cameron and Olivia.
She is also survived by two Brothers, James Drown of Winchester, Mass. and Donald Drown of Woburn, Mass. She was pre-deceased by her still born son and her parents, her Brother Edward and his wife Jean, whom she loved deeply, Her sister Edna and brother in Law Howard of California. Her mom Ethel passed away when Ruth was 15 months old. She spent her life missing getting to know her mom.
Relatives and friends are invited to join with the family in a celebration of the Life of Ruth Graney on Saturday the 30th of January at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, 327 North River Road Milford, NH 03055. Burial will take place in the spring in the South Cemetery, Lyndeborough, NH Donations may be made in her memory to the MVAA (Milford Volunteer Ambulance Association) 66 Elm Street, Milford NH, 03055
