Sanfrid ‘Ed’ Niemela, 79, of Peterborough, NH died peacefully on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at the Pheasantwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a period of failing health.
He was born on March 27, 1938 in Peterborough, NH, son of the late John R. and Lempi (Korpi) Niemela. He was a 1956 graduate of the former Peterborough High School before honorably serving in the NH Army National Guard.
Ed had worked at Bean Fiberglass in Jaffrey and had been a salesman at Keene Chrysler. Ed was an avid golfer and had played competitively in numerous Pro-Am tournaments around the state, as well as earning the title of Keene's Country Club Champion. He also enjoyed deer hunting.
In addition to his parents, Ed was also predeceased by his sister Edna Blanchette, and by his brothers, Carl, Arnold and Martin.
Ed is survived by his son, Michael Niemela of Rohrersville, MD; his step-daughter, Linda Dubois of Jaffrey; his granddaughter Erin Niemela of Los Angeles, CA; his grandson Wesley Niemela of Rohrersville, MD; his step-grandchildren, Jessica Scribner of Elyria, OH and Shawn Lantry of Melbourne, FL; his step-great-grandchildren, Naya Scribner, Aralyn Lantry and Sebastian Lantry; his sisters, Lorna Niemela of Dublin, NH and Linda Saville of Houston, TX; his brothers, John Niemela, Jr. of Reston, VA, Alvah Niemela of Hernando, FL and Armas Niemela of Orlando, FL, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, including his longtime friend and mother of his son, Marlene Davis of Jaffrey.
At Ed’s request, there will be no visiting hours or formal funeral services at this time.
