Selma ( Sally ) I. (Wirein) Rollins, 95 of East Swanzey, widow of W. Howard Rollins Jr. has passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones, on April 30, 2017.
She was born on December 23, 1921, in Keene, the daughter of Celia (Wirein) Birdsong and Ronald Seaver. She was the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Salmi, who raised her from infancy.
She attended schools in Keene, NH and was a 1940 graduate of Keene High School. Her husband of 43 years passed away in 1983. Mrs. Rollins was the first person employed at MPB in 1941 when the factory came to Keene from Lebanon. She stayed with them until the end of World War II when her husband returned home from overseas.
She was a 20-year employee of the US Postal Service, serving five years in East Swanzey and 15 years at the Troy Post Office. Retired September 31, 1989.
For many years, she and her late husband were owners and breeders of Saint Bernards and had the R-Town Kennels, Reg. in East Swanzey. They were both charter members of the Cheshire Kennel Club, Yankee Bottle Club and the New England Saint Bernard Club.
She is survived by her son: 1SG (Ret) William H. Rollins III, of Sherwood, AR; granddaughter: Jennifer Rollins Klemp and her family, of Farmington, MO.; grandson: Erik Rollins and his family, of Sherwood, AR; cousin: Raino Wirein and his family, of Dublin, NH as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband: W. Howard Rollins Jr.; grandson: William H. Rollins, IV; sister: Katherine Howard and a nephew: Gary Howard.
There will be no public calling hours. A memorial service, celebrating her life, will be held on Thursday, May 4, 2017, at 1:00 pm, at the First Congregational Church of Swanzey, 697 Old Homestead Hwy, Swanzey, NH 03446. Burial will take place in the family lot at Mountain View Cemetery in Swanzey.
