NILES V. LAPLANT, SR. 74, formerly of Jaffrey, died peacefully Thursday January 29, 2009 at his residence in Manchester.
He was born August 4, 1934 in Ellenburg, NY son of the late William J. and Mabel (LaFleur) LaPlant.
He had attended schools in Altoona NY.
Mr. LaPlant had been a resident of Jaffrey from 1962 until 1996 when he moved to Marlborough NH. He has lived in Manchester for the past two years.
For twenty five years, Mr. LaPlant was a truck driver in the Peterborough area, having worked for Mike Walker, Tom Keenan and the Town of Peterborough.
In 1976 he began working at Millipore Corp in Jaffrey, and retired in 1996.
He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed hunting when his health allowed and more recently enjoyed playing computer games. He loved his pets and was even known to feed his cat by hand, one piece at a time.
Survivors include his wife of forty seven years, Rebecca (Hubbard) LaPlant of Manchester; his daughter Lisa A. Provencher of Manchester; his son Niles V. LaPlant, Jr. of Bennington NH; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister Vera Dragoon and a brother Donald LaPlant, both of Moores, NY and several nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Because of his love of cats, the family has requested that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Kitty Rescue Adoption, 14 Coolidge Street, Jaffrey NH 03452.
The family warmly invites friends to a celebration of his life on Saturday February 7, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202) Jaffrey.
There also will be an open house at the home of Lisa and Paul Provencher in Manchester on Sunday February 8, 2009 from 10:00AM to 2:00PM. Please call 603-532-6484 for directions.
