Thomas A. Taylor, Sr.

Thomas A. Taylor, Sr., of Jarmany Hill Road, Sharon, NH, passed away peacefully in his home on July 4, 2008.
 
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio, August 31, 1922, son of William and Mary (Sorgen) Taylor, and had lived in Briarcliff Manor and Croton-on-Hudson, New York before moving to Sharon in 1991.
 
Mr. Taylor attended Ohio State University and Northwestern University. During World War II, he was a radio officer in the Merchant Marine. After a career as a radio and TV announcer, he became Vice President of a radio and TV sales representative firm with offices in St. Louis, Ft. Worth, Chicago and New York. He then became Vice President of a media research organization. For many years he was a member of the Sales Executive Club of New York and for twenty years headed his own sales representative company in New York City. With his fondness for people, this was a natural avocation and this career helped him become a wonderful provider for his family.
 
Through the years, he was active in Churches and was a trustee of the Scarborough Presbyterian Church in Briarcliff Manor, New York, and the First Church in Jaffrey Center, New Hampshire.
 
After moving to New Hampshire, he was involved in the chemical dependency field and worked at Beech Hill Hospital. He was associated with several advocacy organizations including the Society of Americans for Recovery and New Futures, an organization dedicated to reducing the problems caused by substance abuse in New Hampshire. In 2003, he formed the Cheshire County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving. In connection with this work, he was recognized for outstanding service in the field of Highway Safety by the New Hampshire Highway Safety Agency.
 
Mr. Taylor was well known by family, friends (and even new acquaintances) for his sense of humor. He always had a joke in mind and loved to make others laugh. He also had a lifelong love for music beginning as an oboist in his younger years and later as an eager audience for live performances, especially from his children and grandchildren.
 
He is survived by his wife, confidant and companion, Nancy, a daughter, Mary Eunice Taylor Ditson, a son, Thomas A. Taylor, Jr., step-daughters Ruth Mills Madeira, Mary Mills Tanner, step-son Stephen Mills, as well as Bill, Linda, Chip and Jeff Yates, their spouses and 22 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

There will be no calling hours.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at the First Church in Jaffrey, 14 Laban Ainsworth Way in Jaffrey Center, NH.  Rev. Chandler Tuck Gilbert will officiate.
