Stella P. Costik Coble

Stella P. Costik Coble, 89, formerly of Baltimore, Maryland died May 27, 2008 at her home in Harrisville, New Hampshire.
 
She was born in Middletown, Pennsylvania on January 20, 1919, daughter of the late Helen and Michael Costik.  She graduated from the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1940 and spent the majority of her fifty-four year nursing career at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  Her strong clinical acumen, conscient­ious work ethic and unflagging vitality resulted in a highly successful profess­ional life.
 
She was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church.  She loved gardening and cooking and made the best apple pie in the universe.  She was an avid reader and followed national and international news closely.  Her profound love of nature, deep respect for the environment, unwavering faith and perseverance, influenced all of her fam­ily.  She was especially joyful when she could spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 
She lived independently with her little dog, T-Bone, until 2005 when she became disabled by a stroke.
For the last two years of her life, she received incredibly loving care from Anne Branzell-Spiegler, Anne Fiedler, Maria Girs, Julie Lord, and Monique Shurman.
 
Survivors include her two sons, Joseph Coble and his wife, Cathy of Severna Park, Maryland, Charles Coble and his wife, Janine of Baltimore, Maryland; her three daughters, Marie Schohn, LPN and her husband, Bill of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Stephanie Huber, RN and her husband, Richard of Baltimore, Maryland and Suzanne Coble, M.D. and her husband Richard Anderson of Harrisville, New Hampshire.  A daughter, Elizabeth, died in infancy.  She is also survived by a brother. Richard Costik and his wife. Martha in Middletown. Pennsylvania, nine grandchildren. Maria, Deaion, Eric, Alicia, Andrea, Jason, Keith. Kelly and Galen as well as nine great-grandchildren, Ashley. Sydney, Kyrsten, Alyssa. Demi, Michaela, Eric, Emma and Aidan. Her siblings, Michael Costik, M.D., Edward Costik, Josephine Hercelroath, Mary Mullane and Helen Donelan died earlier.
 
The Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Jaffrey, New Hampshire and the Matinchek & Daughter Funeral Home of Middletown, Pennsylvania are coordinating the arrangements.

The Stella P. Costik Coble scholarship fund for the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing has been established to honor her dedicated nursing service.  Memorial contributions can be made in her name to:  Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing, 525 N. Wolfe St Room 529, Baltimore, Maryland, 21205.

Internment will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery.

Visitation at the Church of the Seven Sorrows, BVM, Middletown, Pennsylvania will be held on Monday, June 2 at 11:00 AM. with a Funeral Mass at Noon.
