Stephen Tarr, 87, of Hancock, died peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 10, 2015 at Monadnock Community Hospital after a period of declining health.
Steve was born on February 22, 1928 in Charlestown, Massachusetts, son of Andrew and Martha Tarr and was raised for a short period of time in Maine. Steve later moved to Hancock and was raised by his foster parents, Fred Putnam and Helen Holden. Steve attended Hancock Elementary School and graduated from Hancock High School after serving in the U.S. Army where he served as a rifle marksman, truck driver and anti-tank crewman receiving the World War II Victory Metal and Army of Occupation Medal - Japan.
Steve worked at New Hampshire Ball Bearings for many years and later at Perry White Gun Shop, Place in the Woods and with the ConVal School system. Hunting, fishing and trap shooting were a passion for him.
Steve is survived by his three children, Susan Blanchette and her husband David of Hancock, Jeffrey Tarr and his wife Betsy Hardwick of Francestown and Peter Tarr and his wife Darlene of Hancock; five grandchildren, Matthew Tarr, Tobias Tarr, Willow Tarr, Kelsy Fox and Samantha Fox, and two great-granddaughters, Dominique Tarr and Cailin Tarr. His wife, Ruth, died in 2004.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors for Steve will be held at the Norway Plain Cemetery in Hancock, NH on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hancock Fire and Rescue Department, 40 Bennington Road, Hancock, NH 03449.
