Stephen J. Dunn

July 10, 1950 — January 14, 2018

Stephen J. Dunn, 67, of Tyngsborough, MA, died unexpectedly on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell after a very sudden illness.

Stephen was born in Medford, MA on July 10, 1950, son of the late Robert and Margaret ‘Rita’ (Moynahan) Dunn. He grew up in Winchester, MA with a deep sense of pride in his 100% Irish Heritage. Almost 47 years ago, although he ultimately graduated from Arlington Catholic, he married his Winchester High School sweetheart; Pamela Woods. After living in several Boston area towns, they eventually settled down in Billerica, MA where they raised their three daughters and resided for 25 years. Later, they retired in Tyngsborough, MA to be closer to their children and close family members who had migrated north to NH.

Mr. Dunn worked in several fields mostly relating to electronics. He had earned a degree in Electronics at Sylvania Tech and was proud to utilize the skills he had acquired. He installed conveyor belt systems, worked as a computer technician on gas pumps, repaired vending machines and, for a brief period, taught Electronics at Billerica Memorial High School.

He was a very handy guy, and with a little bit of duct tape and bailing wire he could fix just about anything. He was also a craftsman and an artist with wood, he created custom birdhouses and even mailboxes that looked like a covered bridge. This was a hobby Pam and he enjoyed together. He would build and she would use her artistic skills as a painter to put the finishing touches on his beautiful woodwork.

Stephen was the type of man who always put others first, including those he'd never met. Life was about doing everything possible to ensure his family’s happiness. It was impossible not to laugh and smile in his presence. His optimism and sense of humor were contagious. Even in the face of tragedy he taught his family how to rise above it all and always find humor in any situation.

When loss happens, some are left wondering if they said “I love you” one last time. Stephen loved his family with all of his heart and his family will never doubt that. They always say “I love you” to each other and freely show each other how much love they share.

Aside from spending time with his three daughters, one of the biggest joys in his life was spending time with his Grandson Sawyer. They had a very special bond that was instant and unbreakable. A big kid at heart, it was easy for him to find his goofy side while playing with Sawyer. Most of all, he loved spending time making unforgettable memories at family gatherings and the annual family trip to the beaches of Cape Cod.

In addition to his parents, Stephen is predeceased by his brother Kevin, his father-in-law Leonard Woods (who was like as Father to him), and his sister-in-law Teresa Dunn.

Stephen is survived by the love of his life, Pamela (Woods) Dunn, of Tyngsborough, MA; his daughters Stacey Reid, her husband Mike and their son Sawyer of Milford NH, Stephanie (Dunn) Urquhart of New Ipswich NH and Candi Dunn of Nashua NH; his sisters, Barbara Dunn and Rosemary Pirani of Winchester, MA; his brothers, Jerry Dunn of Lynnfield, MA, Eddie Dunn and his wife Kim of Spartanburg, SC, David Dunn and his wife Anne of Milford, PA, and Brian Dunn and his wife Christina of Long Beach, CA and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and close friends.

Family and friends are warmly invited to Calling Hours which will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2018, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street, (Route 202 South) in Jaffrey.
