Theodore R. Magoun

Theodore Robertson Magoun of Jaffrey, New Hampshire, formerly of Cochituate, Massachusetts, died on June 12 in Keene, New Hampshire.
 
He was born June 20, 1923 in Watertown, Massachusetts to F. Alexander Magoun and Flora Robertson Lindsay Magoun.  He married Janet Bland Shively of New Orleans, Louisiana on June 28, 1946.
 
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II before graduating from Yale University, Class of 1945. He was employed by the James O. Welch Company of Cambridge, Massachusetts (later Nabisco) for 30 years as a sales representative. He was the top salesman for the company for many years.
 
He served the Town of Wayland, Massachusetts in several elected and appointed capacities.
 
He served the Boy Scouts, Knox Trail (formerly Algonquin) Council in Framingham, Massachusetts in many volunteer leadership capacities at the local, district, and council levels from 1951 1978. He received the Silver Beaver Award, the Councils highest recognition for volunteer service. After retiring to the family homestead in Jaffrey, he continued as a volunteer leader through the Daniel Webster Council and founded the Public Safety Explorer Post of Rindge, New Hampshire. This was the first post of its type in the country.
 
An active supporter of education, he served on many boards and committees of his childrens schools.
 
He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Richard; and sister, Priscilla M. Brown. He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons Peter R. (Anne) of Traverse City, Michigan and Matt S. (Brigitte) of Bedford, New Hampshire; two grandsons, one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
