Vera Hoy Buck, 92 died peacefully on August 31, 2015 at the Monadnock Community Hospital after a brief period of declining health.
Vera was born on March 31, 1923, daughter of George and Anna Hoy in Montreal, Canada. The family moved to West Charleston, Vermont when she was very young. She graduated from Orleans High School in 1940. On September 11, 1941 she married Maurice Buck, who predeceased her in 2007. When he returned from the Army, where he served in World War II, they settled in Colebrook, NH and raised their four children.
While in Colebrook she was very active in her church, worked in the school lunch program and was employed at The Upper Connecticut Valley Hospital in the dietary department. She was an accomplished seamstress and an avid gardener. Later they moved to Jaffrey, NH. She worked for Woodbound Inn for six years and The Granite Bank for 14 years. She continued her passion for sewing while making Halloween costumes for the local craft fairs. After she retired, she became a greeter at Walmart.
Vera was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of The United Church of Jaffrey. She enjoyed her participation in the Triple D Ladies group at her church especially cooking for the many Church suppers. One of her greatest loves was the six years she spent knitting 350 baby afghans for the newborns in the Nursery at the Monadnock Community Hospital.
For the last few years, she lived among her many dear friends at Gilmore Court.
Vera is survived by her four children and their families: June Edwards and her husband Bruce, their son Jonathan, his wife Jennifer and their three children; their daughter Jessica Murphy, her husband Kevin and their three children; Robert Buck and his wife Renae, their daughter Sarah and son Ryan; Sally Brabble and her husband Donald, their daughter Dawn Revellese, her husband Daniel and their two children; and Patricia Buck, her son Vaughn and his son.
