Virginia S. Blanchette, 78, of Hancock, died peacefully at her son’s home surrounded by her family on Saturday, August 2, 2014 following courageous battle with cancer.
Virginia was born on February 21, 1936 in Peterborough, NH, daughter of the late Kenneth and Jeanie (Tait) Johnston. She lived in Hancock throughout her life and was in the last class from Hancock High School which graduated in 1954.
Virginia started out as an accountant for Brookstone before becoming a stay at home Mom, Grandmother, and G-Mom which was her favorite “Job”. She had also worked at the American Guernsey Cattle Club and had eventually retired from Sims Press after working there for many years.
Virginia was one of the original mothers who started and ran the Hancock Pre-School. She was also fondly remembered as a Cub Scout den mother.
Family was Virginia’s top priority and she always loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed cross stitch, jigsaw puzzles, search-a-word, cross word puzzles and loved writing. She was truly a dedicated mom.
Virginia was married to Albert E. Blanchette who died on December 6, 2008.
She is survived by her four sons; Adam Blanchette of Hancock; Aaron Blanchette and his wife Crystal of Hancock; Aric Blanchette of Peterborough; and Aden Blanchette and his wife Heidi of Jaffrey; her sister Kennethe Cook of Antrim; her grandchildren Miranda Blanchette, Maresha Sweeney, Mariah Blanchette, Alisha Blanchette, Nathaniel Blanchette, Rylee Blanchette; and her great-grandson Evan Blanchette
In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by her sister, Jeanie Donovan.
Friends and family are warmly invited to Calling hours on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Route 202 South), Jaffrey. A graveside service will be held Thursday August 7, 2014 at 3:00 PM at the Hillside Cemetery in Hancock, NH. Rev. Judith Copeland, Pastor of First Congregational Church of Hancock will officiate.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made in Virginia’s memory to Hospice at HCS, P.O. Box 496, Peterborough, NH 03458
