Wayne C. Roy, 91, of Bennington, NH died peacefully Friday November 13, 2015 at home with his family by his side.
He was born November 9, 1924 in Swanton, VT son of the late Howard and Olive (Corliss) Roy. He had attended Swanton High School and graduated from Mount Herman School, Northfield, MA. He attended MIT and earned his Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University and his Master’s Degree in Vocational Education from Keene State College.
Wayne served with the United States Marine Corps from 1942 until 1945.
Mr. Roy had formerly worked for Westinghouse in NJ where he was Senior Design Engineer and also at FPE (Federal Pacific Electronics) also in NJ where he was Project Engineering Manager; and was a retired Professor of Computer Science and Electronics from Nashua Community College in NH.
Wayne served from 1972 to 1989 as head of the Planning Board in Bennington.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to The Villages in Lady Lake, FL.
He was skilled with his hands, creating excellent furniture, building a garage and green house at his Bennington home. He loved to garden. He enjoyed a round of golf, a game of cards, playing pool, and a game of checkers, at which I believe he is still undefeated.
He was a devoted family man. He had a warm and endearing personality and will be greatly missed.
In 1946 he married the love of his life Alice Finlay; she died in February of 1998.
Wayne is survived by his daughter Barbara Varnum and her husband Jerome of Bennington NH, with whom he had lived for the past four years; also surviving are his son Allen Roy and wife Dorothy of Greensboro, NC; five grandchildren, Rocco (and Heather) Viscito, Michael Viscito, Cynthia Roy, Lisa (and Matthew) Collanzo, George (and Tiffany) Varnum; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; his brother Rev. Ralph Lord Roy of Southington CT; his sister Erma Parker of South Daytona FL; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two daughters Mary Hewitt and Carol Viscito; a granddaughter Christie Hewitt; two brothers Malcolm Roy and Howard A. Roy, Jr.
In keeping with Wayne’s wishes, there will be no formal services at this time.
Private committal services in Evergreen Cemetery, Bennington will take place at the convenience of the family.
