Winnifred 'Winnie' Haynes

Jaffrey, New Hampshire Winnifred ‘Winnie’ Haynes, 91, of Jaffrey, died on Sunday, October 30, 2011 at the Monadnock Community Hospital in Peterborough after a brief illness. She was born in Sharon, New Hampshire on November 12, 1919, daughter of the late Charles H. and Janet (Elliot) Smith. Winnie was a 1937 graduate of Conant High School in Jaffrey and a lifelong resident of this community. Winnie always enjoyed taking care of others. She was a caregiver to many elderly residents of Jaffrey through the years and had been a hostess at the Woodbound Inn caring for the guests and taking care of their lodging needs. Winnie was a very active member at the United Church of Christ in Jaffrey. She had served on many committees and with the Triple D. Winnie had belonged to the Jaffrey Grange #135 and was an Auxiliary Member of the John Humiston Post #11 American Legion and the Jaffrey Memorial Post #5613 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Her greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren, and she also loved to read and keep up on all of the current events in her beloved little town of Jaffrey. Winnie was preceded in death by her husband, Harold ‘Blondie’ Haynes on December 25, 1983, and by her daughter-in-law Jacquelyn Haynes in 1989. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Betourney and her husband Robert of Winchendon, MA; her 2 sons, Gerry Haynes of Greenville, SC and Michael Haynes and his wife Kim of Sullivan, NH; 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Family and friends are warmly invited to calling hours at the Cournoyer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 33 River Street, Jaffrey on Wednesday, November 2, 2011 from 5:00 until 7:00PM.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11:00AM in the United Church of Jaffrey, 54 Main Street, Jaffrey. Rev. Teri Motley, Pastor, will officiate.
